The Xoronns are a race of bipedal insectoids. They have a centralized metabolism that can absorb any organic matter. Their chitinous exoskeleton is covered with a thin layer of tissues, whereby taking heat as a secondary source of energy. The natural environmental heat for a Xoronn is about 70C, and though they don't feel physical pain for it, a temperature of 50 degrees is considered deadly cold by them. Xoronns live for 40 years.

The Xoronn society was raised on general shortages due to the poor resources of their homeplanet, consequently they are very industrious and economical, and appreciate useful things. The foundation of the governmental body is the sum of worker cells, each having equal rights to vote on plans for the future. It is a clear fact that alien races are hardly interesting to them, unless they're interfering with their matters.

Ever since they reached their technological age, the Xoronns considered reaching other star systems to be the only certain solution to overpopulation. During their endeavour to reach this goal, they learned that the only possibly inexhaustible supply is of what they can grow. Most of their instruments are now replaced with bio-engineered materials.
