Biology:
The Pequeninos are probably the most bizzare and unique species in Universe. They were created by Descoloda, the super-mutagenic virus that mixed genomes of porcine-like mammals and trees. As a result, pequenino life cycle includes an active but sterile animal phase and the reproductive state as a tree capable to fertilize larva-like females. Females, or "wives" are trasfered from farther-tree to mother-tree by "brothers" - younger pequeninos still in animal form. To become a tree, pequenino must be "planted" - ritually vivisected by other pequeninos. Descolada catalized transition transfers pequenino intellect and memory to the tree and enables it to freely transform the trunk into any possible tools for "brothers".

Society:
The Pequeninos society is organised by tribal principle. Each tribe corresponds to a separate forest of farther-trees and mother-tree and inhabited by their descendants. The final authority belongs to mother-trees but most decisions are usually made by farther-trees. However, "brotheres" - youngsters in animal form - have the executive power since they perform all physical tasks. Altogether, pequeninos tribe is a very complex but very balanced social structure.

History:
When humans arrived to Lusitania, Pequeninos were primitive albeit highly intelligent race. Even though Starways congress posed every possible restrictions on cultural transfer, the contact with humans started an explosive progress of Pequeninos science and technology. Even more important was Ender\'s decision to give Hive-queen the refuge on Lusitania. To save herself and Pequeninos from Xenocide by Starways congress, Hive-queen gave pequeninos starships.
