I have it stuck in my mind to attempt re-creating Atrocities' Imperial ship set in low-poly 3-D for SE5. I wanted to separate this from Atrocities' post so as to not clutter his set and comments with my progress and associated comments.

The progress so far is encouraging, but hampered by lack of source material.

Atrocities, any chance I could get bigger pics than the 128x128 "portraits" to better understand the detail on each ship? Feel free tell me to kill the project; I am trying for a direct port of your work, so let me know if you don't want it to happen.

Attached are a Wings3D render and a Starfury render for the escort; I am by no means done but have decent progress.

That is a nice model. Are you making the models in Wings3D or just using it to render them after you made them in another program?

Yes I would be more than happy to post larger images.

The plan is Wings3d, and it is all materials for coloring right now. As I mentioned, that model is only 180 polygons; I want to get to the 300-level before calling it good.

My e-mail is albijoe1@yahoo.com.

Oh, yeah - don't forget multiple angles, and I will REALLY need help to create the whole set in time for SE5 if I can't find patterns. I'd estimate this one took 4-6 hours of twiddling, and probably another 2-3 hours to get to the 300-level.

I haven't even started looking at the component / drive lighting / possible other options, but I assume these will take an initial 2-3 hours to learn and then maybe 1/2 hour for each ship.

Oh, what I get myself into... Rolling Eyes

Just got Atrocities' files yesterday. I was making low-poly starts for a couple more of the ships, but I'm going to see what I can do with the first one.

Engine glows etc. are applied in-game. All you need to know is what the x,y,z location of the engines are.

I know (roughly, from StarFury demo), buty it'll still have to be experimented with to fit right the first time.

What if I want the classic "multi-engine" star destroyer? I'll have to get each of the light sources in the right spot and working.

I saw additional light sources available in SF, but could never get them to work. (Ooh, can anyone do a tutorial?)

FYI, I have the escort at 250 polys and I'm stopping until I can get an engine and/or bottom shot. The tower's done now. I took a bit of creative license, bit the ship is easily recognizable. I'm going to post it with the Frigate when I am done with both (maybe by end of tomorrow)

Hmm, if you see human's colony ship for example, you can see more glows. If you see its .x file, maybe it can help. I don't know, I'm not modeller.
Can't the Universal Shipyard Tylmai race tutorial help you?

I am going o get the shape done before lighting, coloring, or components spaces - shaping is the hard part.

Escort & Frigate are done except for engines; I included pics, wings and .X formats below.

Hi!

I see you work well Smile albi_joe! But these ships look big. Are they really escort- frigate?

If I know well the frigate class ship of Empire this is:

Ops, sorry, I haven't seen Atrocities's shipset. But if it is possible, please take the Lancer frigate and Imperial Dreadnaught ships to your shipset (Scout and Corvette), because they are basic and known ships of Empire. I don't know if they will be any shipset modes to SE V later.

Although the shipset is labelled "Imperial" and has a few ships in common with the Empire, Atrocities made quite a number of ships on his own. I believe half the point was to have something "based on", not "true to"

I don't believe there are enough Imperial ships to do a Neo Standard shipset, so such creativeness is necessary.

If Atrocities wants to re-make his hipset, I will see what I can do; I will concentrate on converting whatever the shipset is at the time.

As I mentioned, I want shaping done first; doing a "Scale- Uniform" for proper sizing, messing with the colors and fixing a few artifact glitches are all easy.

If there is a specific ship someone wants for Star Fury, I'll focus on getting one ship done "perfectly". Really, there is so much work to do...

The Light Cruiser. I know it's not as "true" as the previous 2, but the shape has 322 polys - I know I can do more, but I don't know SE5's limits.

All ships thus far are attached.

That is a statement I'm going to have to contest as a (possibly frightening) Star Wars fan. There are more than enough ships in the SW universe to create a few Neo Standard shipsets.

One game that you can find alot of these ships in Star Wars: Rebellion, an oooold LucasArts RTS (And since it's LucasArts, it can be taken as 'canon', for all you canon cannoneers Wink )

Another, and newer one is the Warlords mod for Homeworld 2. Really, the only big change from Rebellion to Warlords is a much shinier medium. You can find the Warlords mod download here: http://www.swrebellion.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=6

That site also has screenshots in the forums and such. I'm sure there's a few dozen other places on the internet you can find the Star Wars list of ships, with all sorts of media.

It's not my shipset, but this alternate way cetainly avoids any... imperial entanglements.

Neo+ needs more than 45 ships, while SW: Rebellion has no more than 20. I dragged out my old instruction manual to check.

And once again, I submit there are not the 40+ Imperial craft required to create a shipset.

All Imperial craft in Rebellion are contained at that site, plus perhaps 10 more, for a countable total of 26 at the site.

And again, I am a big fan of the work Atrocities has done; I specifically set out to replicate his work. I can't seem to design original ships people like. Razz
