I can not seem to get the multiplayer to work for the game in any way shape or form. me and my friend are trying to play with each other on our own computers and TCP/IP is not working, Modem is not working and the other thing is not working. I make the network and he simply can not connect. Like on modem there is no modem to pick from and TCP/IP we enter everything correct and it still doesn't work. What does one have to do to make this work?

The easiest fix would be to run Hamachi in the background.

TCP/IP is broken. It only works over a LAN (or a virtual LAN like Hamachi). It cannot handle the presence of NAT routers on either client end.
Another option is PBW2.

Hello,
I have a friend coming over tomorrow (GMT) and it very likely that we will want to play SEV Balanced Mod on two separate computers.
As I have read on the forums running Hamachi in the background works.
Both computers are running Hamachi and are on the same network but it still won't work.
I am able to connect using the TCP/IP but not the Modem or other option.
Once connected it is fine right up until I tell it to process the first turn.
It places the players, and then does nothing. It doesn't freeze, it just does nothing. I have left it for over an hour hoping it was just a time thing but that failed. I know the problem isn't with computer power as my machine is a little over the top for component level and quality.
I am running Windows Vista Home Premium and the other computer is running Windows Vista Home Basic both at their highest possible service pack.
I would really appreciate it if someone could give me some magic, and in depth instructions so that I can get this working in the next 3 hours.
Thank you very much,
Dan.

PBW would be your best bet. I've played 1 on 1 games real-time with no problems. Plus you can continue your game after the weekend is over if you wish.

PBW is a little excessive for two player LAN play, since you have to rely on the relatively slow internet pipe to upload and redownload the files. It will of course work, but TCP/IP is a little more practical.
You do not need Hamachi if you are on the same network (both machines have an internal LAN IP address in 192.168.1.*, for example). The purpose of Hamachi is to create a virtual LAN over the internet, so that SE5's broken network code will be able to connect. But if you are already in a LAN, it won't make any difference.
Make sure SE5 is allowed through Windows firewall, and any other firewall software you might be running. Try disabling the firewalls entirely if that doesn't help. Of course, make sure to turn them back on after the test...
SE4 TCP/IP games could arbitrarily be processed as PBEM (and thus PBW) games after game start, so you could always switch to PBW after a session. Wonder if SE5 supports the same mechanism?

Judging by what you have been saying I may have spotted the problem.
On the other hand I have no problem connecting through TCP/IP but it won't generate the first turn.
Do you guys know of anything specific relating to that?
Thanks,
Dan.

Absolutely nothing seems to be wrong.
Both games are the same version, both are using the correct IP address, both are on the same network. The two computers will connect fine. They will send over the empire files.
I then click the 'Process Next Turn' button to send the initial turn. My computer will place the players and hen do nothing. The status bar will be at 0% of 'Generating First Game Turn' and will stay there until I quite the session.
If anyone knows what is wrong please help.
Thanks again,
Dan.

You could try using tcp/ip file transfer to simulate the functions of PBEM/PBW without routing the file through a web server.

As far as I can tell the problem is not in transferring the files.
As I have already said:

So if anyone knows what is going on and can solve it for me please respond soon.
Thanks,
Dan.
