I'm working on a custom map featuring some-what realistic details of the systems and planets in our local arm of the Milkyway galaxy. For reference, if you've ever played "Web and Starship", I'm essentially trying to model that map (not the entire game, although I may attempt a scenario loosely based on it).

Anyway, I'm trying to figure out if the Radiation levels (mR/yr) have any affect on the conditions of the planet or not? I've gone to astronomy and NASA websites to get as much relevant data as possible to fill in the blanks. I've also created some test maps to try out and as far as I can tell it doesn't, and appears to be more cosmetic. Still, I'd like to try and get as close to a some-what realistic value as possible.

Anyone know where I might find this kind of information?

As far as I know, the radiation numbers are entirely cosmetic.

That's no space station - it's a spreadsheet!

Yeah, unless there's a script function to use them they're yet another unimplemented feature.

Thanks for the input.

That's kind of what I figured. Considering the map I'm modding doesn't really care about those kinds of details, so I won't worry about that. Still, it's one of those details, I'd like to get right (from a curious, scientific perspective Wink ).

I'm trying to remember the exact specifics, but IIRC someone tried to make facilities that used those stats as part of determining how much stuff to produce. I don't think it worked.

What would be cool is if the (mR/yr) affected the growth and disease level on a planet. Or you could have it affect population limits on a planet.

I wish I knew how/if you could call those variables.

I'm sure there must be some way to call or even make IIF statements or case statements, but again I dont know all the call names and variable names that SEV uses. I been learning C++ on my own, but haven't try to learn scripting languages yet like Pascal or Lua

That's exactly what I would like for it to do Smile For instance one of the main reason why sending humans to Mars is so problematic is the radiation levels (mostly just the trip to get there) but if we could develop technology to overcome these hurdles it would make colonizing other stellar bodies viable.

In the game, I would expect to see that number affect the conditions of the planet based on your race's tolerances to extreme conditions. So yeah, all those effects could come into play.

Hmm... now to poke at it and see if it can be done...

What did you find out from experimenting?
