In SE5, I can order a ship equipped with stealth armor to cloak. However, that doesn't seem to work in SE4 (at least the Invasion game I'm playing) - the ship needs an actual cloaking device. Is stealth armor broken in SE4? Or is it automatically activated? And if so, what causes it to be automatically activated? The fact that it uses no supplies, perhaps?

I cloak my stealth-armored ships all the time - literally every time I play SEIV. It works exactly like a cloaking device, with the same sound and visual effect. You do have to manually activate it. The problem must be with the Invasion Mod (or possibly your copy of SEIV).

Keep your point defense cannons charged... the Null Space Mod is now available.

I believe it is automatic in SE4 as it was a new thing in SE5 where it had to be activated via the cloak order.

What does this "stealth armor" have in terms of abilities?

Ability 1 Type        := Combat To Hit Defense Plus
Ability 1 Descr       := Gives a 15% defense bonus in combat (only 1 component per ship effective).
Ability 1 Val 1       := 15
Ability 1 Val 2       := 0
Ability 2 Type        := Cloak Level
Ability 2 Descr       := Prevents level 1 Active EM scans.
Ability 2 Val 1       := EM Active
Ability 2 Val 2       := 1
Ability 3 Type        := Cloak Level
Ability 3 Descr       := Prevents level 1 Passive EM scans.
Ability 3 Val 1       := EM Passive
Ability 3 Val 2       := 1


There appear to be only two differences between Invasion stealth armor and stock stealth armor. First, Invasion stealth armor doesn't have the Armor ability, so it's leaky. Second, it has only a cloak level of 1, while stock stealth armor has a cloak level of 2. Hmm, maybe that's the problem? I know in SE5, cloaking is a bit weird in that a level N sensor defeats a level N cloak, even though the descriptions say otherwise. Maybe CW got confused and changed the stealth armor to not actually provide any cloaking (since all ships get free sight at level 1)? Razz[/code]

That's the problem. In se4, all space vehicles have innate level 1 em active and em passive scanning abilities. That stealth armor is useless as a cloaking device.
