what program can I use to make my own shipsets? Does the program have a tutor or a text doc that explains how to use it?
Thanks

Pretty much any 3D modeling app will do, so long as it can export DirectX (.x) models. There are also some text files you'll need to configure your shipset; you can look at existing shipsets to see how those work.

That's no space station - it's a spreadsheet!

I tried a few but most of the 3D modeling I seen was not free or only a trial. What kinds are free, and thanks

Wings 3D and Blender are free and support .x export.
