Currently we have lots of nice Star Trek themed shipsets, but it has always struck me that the main protagonists of that universe, The Federation, don't really fit well within the Space Empires context.
The problem is, that in order to do well in the game you are eventually going to have to betray/subjugate/exterminate all the other sentient beings you encounter.
This pretty much mandatory course of action really doesn't fit too well with central tenets of the those goody-two shoes Starfleet pussies.
Recently however, while screening some of the remastered original series (awesome, if you haven't seen em!) I watched the classic "Mirror, Mirror" episode.
In this one, Kirk the boys get caught in an Ion storm while beaming up and get switched with their evil twins from an alternativeuniverse.
This 'mirror' universe features most of the same people and situations, but all are altered to be more aggressive and opportunistic. Instead of the pacifistic Federation, we have the much more militant and Xenophobic 'Terran Empire'.
It struck me that this would be a much better fit for SEV!
With this in mind I started putting together a shipset that could fit the bill.
Here are a few snaps of what I have so far.
I like to zoom up pretty close to the action during battles, so I am going with pretty hi resolution textures. This shouldn't have a marked affect on frame rates though.

Very nicely done. And an interesting switch from yellow to a more aggressive red.

I concur. This is one I'd like to have in my game.
No more ninny Federation haranguing me with repeated nicey-nice requests for %Proposed Treaty Name!
(heh, I think it's just a typo in the speech file)

I started off with yellow, similar to the scheme on the Enterprise mirror episodes, but wasn't that keen on it. I did like the idea of some sort of similar aggressive looking markings on the saucer, though (though the TOS episode didn't have them).
These ships are from a much later period (post TOS) so I'm thinking that by that time, somebody finally realized that painting the trim on your attack fleet yellow isn't the most menacing move.

Yeah, I'm revising the AI_Speech file for these guys.
They really aren't the type to compliment you on your astonishing growth, or claim that they are "...not a violent species, you have left us no choice..."!

Man, that's one thing I've so far refused to do, and I can really see why a lot of shipset makers didn't. Rewriting the speech files is a ton of work.

Yeah, the whole greeni-tinged yellow thing the TE originally had was just plain ugly and unworkable.
There was a fanfilm, "Of Gods and Men", that showed a quasi-Terran Empire with very cool looking RED markings on their ships. Loved the look of them.

Yup, the damn things are 18.000 words+
Needless to say I have restricted myself to changing only the more friendly, cheerful and obsequious lines.
I also made an effort to keep it fairly generically arrogant, so that it might be reused for other nasty races.

Yeah, you're right.
That sounds much less daunting... 
Actually, a lot of that is for Alliance related lines, which nobody is likely to use (if they know what's good for 'em!), an another major chunk is fairly neutral and innocuous.
I reckon I only ended up changing a few dozen lines that struck me as particularly weak/cheerful/friendly.
I am even considering doing generic organic and religious ones, and maybe a mechano/Borg-ish one.
That would give a mix of possibilities to allow unobtrusive (if not particularly nuanced) AI speech for a pretty broad range of races.
Not this week though

Ok, a bit of an update.
I have pretty much finished the Terran Empire set and plan to upload it along with the next update of the Reduced Size Shipsets
Along with this I have a few other sets that I will be adding to the list, including:
A pair of Battlestar sets...
These are based on Isopsyco's colonial and cylon sets, but feature new models, improved and higher resolution textures and engine glows.
A pair of Star Wars Sets base off TakAhLah's Alliance and Empire sets that feature the same sort of improvements...
And finally, two of Prometeu's excellent recent releases
These two feature topnotch models and textures, so apart from the reduced scale, the only changes are some reorganizing and lightening of the Ship Portraits.
Along with the shipsets, as usual I will also be including revised, unobtrusive small flagsets.
Still some minor details to finish off, but I expect to have these up shortly.

Not for this update, but that set, along with the Republic (I like the idea of doing antagonistic pairs as a set) are definitely on the list.
If you are in a hurry for those sets, then the basic process for reducing and standardizing is pretty straightforward.
A basic tutorial on the process is here.

WOW, I absolutely love the white/yellow/black shipset. But the Space Stations look kind of "not matching". Will there be alternative models/textures for these?

I haven't been able to find this anywhere, was it released? Also, the G'urak shipset down load (v 1.06 and v 1.2) don't work, any chance of those being updated?
