I don't think you can change the default weapon bank by modding it. It is always 1 when you start the game. You have to go to the spaceport and hover the mouse arrow over the wep and press 1, 2, 3, or 4 to set the weapon bank. If there is some other way, I have never seen it.

What are the point of weapon banks? If all of my weapons are set to bank #1; they fire as the enemy ship enters there firing arc. Why do i need four? Or am i missing something?

Can't fire at anything behind you if everything is in bank 1.

I thought for sure I had fired the aft weapons before with all the weapons set in bank 1. Then again, maybe not. Smile

Weapon banks allow for organization of your weapons. For example, you might want to separate your weapons by range for maximum accuracy, so that bank 1 might be short range weapons and bank 2 might be long range seekers. Other reasons might be for timing or isolating special effect weapons etc.

would using different weapon banks make a difference in reload time? or does that stay set? Or does that all depend on your power plant output vs weapon energy usage?

Weapon banks don't change reload time.

Not that I know of. Having enough energy will keep it from falling below the listed reload though.
