I will be brief, Senators. We need to focus our resources on securing our frontiers and conquering enemy territory. Gas Giant Research must be banned.
We can gain more territory by conquering enemy planets. This method of increasing our colony numbers has two advantages over Gas Giant Colonization. Firstly, we deprive our enemies of resources while enriching ourselves. Secondly, the military forces that we build can be used for other purposes, like defense.
Economically, we are not fully using our resource base. We are storing vast numbers of resources every turn. Building colonizers would seem to solve these problems; however, that solution would be temporary, at best. We would eventually find ourselves where we are now, with a vast resource base that we cannot effectively use.
In short, researching Gas Giant Colonization would be a fool's errand.
I have no wish to see us squander our resources, research, or yard time. I have no wish to see enemies overrun our borders while we are building colony ships. I have no wish to see our citizens murdered or enslaved by our adversaries.
And I have no wish to see the Federation snuffed out because we pissed away its strength on a fool's errand.

I wholeheartedly concur with all the points my esteemed colleague from House Bifrost has put forth. We as a Federation has sat back and watched as it's enemies have eroded our borders. Kennelworth, Melbor, and Sephandris have already fallen to the enemy, and Sundry is hanging on by a thread. How many more of our citizens will we allow to be enslaved by those that would destroy us? How many more systems must fall before we decide to take action? We must take the fight to the enemy, less we fall victim to them.

i think this would benifit the federation as a whole. althow i will for now put of motioning this to a vote untill more discussion is had on the topic.

Not as far as I know. I've heard rumors that certain parties have been stockpiling science for this tech, but no hard data supports this. I would prefer that the tech be banned before anyone ties up their science in pledges or the like.
