There are a lot of good suggestions here for improvements, but what can we realistically expect will be added to an expansion?

I am all for this Expansion, however am very content to just accept that it will have very few _new_ features, but rather, fix existing ones.

The scale of the game (especially with troops and Ground Combat) is too small; the UI obviously needs an overhaul (and IMO a few throwbacks to SEIV - who hasn't wanted the Planets screen to get its old "No Sys To Avoid" button)... and also the graphics (speed considerations. SE3 and SE4 were perfect examples of Speed > Graphic intensity = good gameplay).

I'd pay for bugfixes. And more importantly, I'd pay to see this game evade the fate of so many other space 4x/strats in recent years.

I'd be very willing to pay 50 for an update/expansion that fixes the diplomatic AI and improves the diplomacy UI (with the option for immediate diplomacy with AI opponents and in simultaneous network games). Big wish, but as I said, I'd donate a lot of money for anything that kicks SEV back to life.

I hope for a hint from Malfador to be willing to accept a donation for development so maybe one could establish a paypal-driven donation account.

Their has been alot of good suggestions here but my favorite pet peev with the game is the multi player. I think if they enhanced the multi play with the game it would be alot more popular. Till then I will soldier on with Hamachi. Did I hear someone say they were working on SE6?

What's wrong with multiplayer?

Truly, from what I've seen... I can't say that most SE5 players' problem with the game would be the multiplayer.

PBW sure is a different way of playing a game, but it is a 4X TBS, ultimately, and takes a long time to play any way you look at it.

Now, MoO3 on Gamespy... that was interesting.

5 or 6 just keep going , the hard core are always going to buy the game. keep making it better and more will come. SEV 5 with the BM and patches is pretty darn good. keep the faith and interest. build it and they will come.

I'm guessing the hardcore SE crowd isn't large enough to warrant anybody quitting their day job to make SE6.

That's the gist of it. But looking at the tremendous output from modders, one can only hope that SEV becomes open source code at some point. Failing that, I hope that one of the 4.5 initiatives pulls through. As it is, I doubt we're ever going to see SEVI from Malfador.

I'd definitely pay for an expansion, especially if it fixed the bugs, UI, and diplomacy issues I've encountered. I'd also be happy if we could edit the naming of warp points so as to make the font size small or remove the 'Warp point to' bit as it's pretty obvious that a warp point is a warp point. I know that's a small issue but I like to reroute WP's and grouping them together tends to make a mess when you have 10 WP's clustered together.

Everything that has been mentioned would be addressed if SEV was Open Source.

I dont see this happening in my lifetime so hello scripts.

As a new player I would no have any problems paying $20-$30 for a game expansion. I already do this with many PC games I own and paying for DLC is something I already do (if the content is worth it).

I would like a SEV/BM game update that runs on Windows 7 and incorporates many of the changes already mentioned in the previous posts.

Some changes offered here are not modeble, in TCP/IP you will get everything same to PBEM/PBW.

I would pay $30 for an expansion if it gives me this:
allow me to alt-tab out to another app, and alt-tab back into the game without it crashing or hanging up.

That's all I ask.

I run win7 64-bit.

I have not heard of it being used on a Win 7 Machine but others have used it to make LANs.

Hey Cap'n, any word on if this will ever happen? You first brought the idea up a year ago, so thinking that it's probably dead in the water.

After the initial talk, there wasn't much follow up and now it's probably too late with MM working on their new project.

I think SE VI is more actual than expansion now. New technologies with the server-based multiplayer is what SE need, as well as the further gamelay complication.
