Hi everyone,
Long time since I have been on this forum. Been out of the region looking for the elusive erioderma p.
Anyhoo, I see that the community is going strong with some really good modellers out there.
Which brings me to my request.
Has anyone here ever played Nexus: The Jupiter Incident. A really cool real-time space fleet simulator that unfortunately died due to lack of support from it's developers and a host of other problems. The game was great, but what was really great was the number and types of ships.
Both Terran and Alien forces came in a variety of design hulls - frigates, destroyers, cruisers, battleships and carriers to name a few.
I am not sure what format they are in (I believe a .msh format), but I can find out.
It would be really cool to see the Angelwing in the game.
If anyone does not have access to the original Nexus models, I can load it back on my old comp and then send them the models to play with.
If you need the original .msh files (the original model files), I can get them to you via email or some other means.
I do have the full copy of the game (and btw, the game was an excellent game to play - really great - if you can pick it up at a discount bin, I strongly reccommend you do so).
I'll pick up a copy of it, I'll try to extract the files. We're they in a folder easy to distinguish if they were model/mesh files?
Been busy lately, getting ready to move again. Will be out of the net for a little bit until I get my ISP and server back online....hope the withdrawl shakes aren't too bad...... Back to top
I believe they are embedded in the Data compressed file, which in turn is easily decompressed and the msh files are conveniently placed in one file folder, with seperate file subfolders for each race. The old terran ships are so-so, but the newer ones (the better terran ships) are pretty cool, as are the alien ships as well.
Great special effects. When I saw that post a few days ago, I thought it was showcasing a B5 ship - not a Nexus ship. That means that they can be imported.
While I do love the old-style Terran ships, I believe the newer ships (the Terrans living on the other side of the wormhole) are better suited because they have a more fleshed-out fleet (from frigates up to battleships and carriers), as well as fleshed-out alien ships.
While I do love the animations, my concern would be the time it takes to get it set up (compared to developing a normal model), plus the amount of possible lag in-game during large-scale battles.
Other than that - thanks for the info because it does show that Nexus ships can be imported, and that complex animations can be done.
Dogsquad's website is also good to get online .msh files to test and play around with, but their quality (compared to the original game's .msh files) are not as good, as well as being highly variable in composition (i.e. compared to the Terrans and the Gorg, in which all of their ships have similar looking hulls to one another - they are just larger, smaller or slightly differently shaped). The Gorg and new-Terrans (I cannot remember their names for the Terrans on the other side of the wormhole for life of me) have the best ships and most rounded out fleets so their transformation into the SE V universe may entail the least amount of work, with the biggest benefit to the community. Other than that, if you could design the Angelwing, then all things will rock!
Gamespots's old review of the game gives a person the best overall view of the warships in combat (lots of screenshots in the typical Gamespot review) at http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/nexus/review.html.
You know, this was one of those games that I had dearly wished would break out and become a fantastic hit so that the company would better service and update it (as well as allow more development tools to mod and create more missions and campaigns), but it has died a slow, painful death.
There are those out there that still try to mod the game, but it is slow and unfortunately disjointed.

p.s. please do not be distracted by the BSG mod in Nexus - we need you for our BSG mod in SEV, and this possible side project Back to top
Just to let people know I haven't forgotten this thread or the Nexus ship set. Still interested to get this void filled (and give me more models for my growing archive, I know its a disease almost). I have the game now, 5.99 from a bargain bin, just have to see how to extract the models or at least get some screen captures to start modeling them. I'll add it to my growing list of things to do while on quarter break Back to top
Also, the game is available on Steam for cheap as well, if you can't find it in stores. I'm playing through and loving it. Especially for the thoughtfulness to physics and such in the game.

Kaar the Asteroid field mission is easy
Head to Nav point 0 at start, as soon as u seen a bunch of new stuff, head to nav point 3
Nav point 3 is where the radiation is, so ur ship will be uncloak for 30 seconds
wait till it has 15 seconds on the countdown, then directly head to nav point 7. By the time, u clear the radiation, the ship will be recloak.
do the same at nav point 7, but this time set ur engine power to 200%. Then head st towards the base. Stop when it's only 10,000 away from the base, launch ur Commandos at the base.
Then the rest of the mission will be easy. Back to top
