I finally understand something of Max's texturing system. For some reason Max5 is more willing to cooperate with me than Max 6. Anyway, I made a shipyard for the Human Alliance.

What do you think?

The textures could use some more color and the model itself is very... blocky.

*looks at statement above, realizes how seemingly mean it is, and shakes head*

Sorry, I'm not that effusive with praise unless I really, _really_ like a model. It's not that bad but I don't feel the mesh is all that great. The textures are fine but you need to use some different colors on the model. It's too repetitive the way it is now.

I can see some Freelancer influence there. Good job but you can add more detail and it should be fine.

Well it took few hours just to do that. Not the model I mean. That was done in 15 minutes. But I'm very bad at texturizing and this blocky spaceyard I managed to do with trial and error.

But I agree it's blocky and it doesn't actually have those supports or whatever that are around the ship when it's being build. I'll go back to the drawing board.

Also it's funny, my patience doesn't seem to reach on texturizing but I can carefully shape a shuttlecraft from a sphere by moving invidual vertixes to new places just to name an example.

Ok, I started working with a new shipyard. It's not nearly finished though. Still tell me what you think of it so far.

Thanks. It's not finished though. I'll add more details to the station before starting to texturize it. I'll show you the finished mesh before I start working with the textures.

Here's a pic with some textures. It's still missing a lot of details though.

Agreed, but that is a _major_ improvement. Maybe you should change the shape and size of the docking collars some.

Also, how touchy is SF about textures? You might want to add some windows, maybe even glowmaps if the engine supports them.

I will add some windows and unfortunately SF doesn't support glow maps or stuff like that. So right now I'm first texturizing the model with multiple layers and stuff like that and then bake them all into texturemap. Then I just have to assing the texture coordinates to match the model. Not the easiest way to do things but it's the only I know.

ok, here's the latest version. I still haven't texturized the main hull of the station. Only the pylon, "docking bay doors", solar panel, module connected to the pylon and the storage containers.

Sorry, my bad. You know someday I'm going to learn to write the urls right in the first time.

Now this link is tested. It should work.

(Subsequent edit: nevermind, just looked at the latest version. Much better)

Very reminiscent of Freelancer, especially the docking area. Wink

Yes I took some "small" influence from Freelancer when designing the Shipyard. Unfortunately it uses too many texturing layers so I can't bake a complete texturemap of it. Damn, well anyway, I'll design a new shipyard with a little more original touch later.

Thanks for the comments!

Welcome back Ayvar. I gave you access to the team forum so you can post there too.

Sad to say that I haven't done that much with TPM though. I added one new slot type and enemy appearances which unfortunately made the mod quite unstable in pirate systems. I haven't tracked down the reason yet.

Currently I'm away from home and when I get back in August I have to start studying for the exams in August. I try to get back to TPM after that. So right now progress on the mod is rather slow. Sad

its nice to be back:)

Well, real life is always more important, so you should take all the time you need...

Regards,
Ayvar
