Sign in here to help out the System Lords. If you are interested in being a vassal to a System Lord, and possibly becoming a System Lord yourself sign in here. Also this would be a good place to sign up if you think you could be a Captain of Industry (Corporate), or as a Senator, or possibly fill a position in the government. Hey guys, I've been browsing this forum and it looks to be an interesting game. I've got CB 1.6b installed, downloaded the data file and extracted to cb/data folder and extracted the latest savegame to the savegame folder. I've created a guest account for the market thingy but I don't know if thats all I need, probably need a real username/password, eh?
Anyways, is it too far into the game to start? I was thinking of being an explorer but if its too far advanced for that, whichever is fine. What exactly does a Senator do ..debates politics I know, but any planets/power, anything?
Just tell me what roles you lack currently and I'll try to fit in.
Basically every player is a senator. Allowing them to vote on things involved in the game, and in game things like laws, budgets, etc.
As for what role to play... Well you could be taken under a System Lords wing, and maybe strike out on your own as a small System Lord. You can start a corporation. Maybe consider joining the Federated Worlds Navy.

If you want to join, the two standard jobs would be:
- Military Officer.
Kana is the current head of the navy, and you'd report to him. He'll give you some ships, pay their maintenance costs, and send you to the front lines to perform some dangerous grunt work. Smile
Our military record is quite good so far; in two of the three battles so far, the ship of ours which took fire also destroyed the enemy, and in the third battle the kill was claimed by one of the other ships in the fleet.
You should be able to see some of the damaged ships at shipyards in the far west.
- System Lord.
In most cases, you would get a set of colony ships and make for the frontier with a load of brave and hardy souls, or arrange to help manage part of a large system lord's territory.
You could also perform a coup and take over another player's territory and accounts completely if they're not playing much.
There is also the more involved and complex option of going independent. You would probably dip into many of the below options, and come up with more if you can think of them:
- Market speculation:
buy low, sell high!
borrow excess resources, loan them back out to others
Get yourself a BSY, and make profits by building stuff for people
Prophet is planning to do this, still needs to secure payment tho
Much like an officer, but independent. Contract out to System lords for various services, such as destroying aliens, escorting colony ships, etc. To be truly mercenary, you'll want to get paid three or four times by various people for various things during the same job
If you can think of something you think might be unique, and can be done in the game, I say go for it. Or you can just trying some of the things above. Basically your choices are the limit of your imagination. FSL Kana/CNO F.W.S.N/FNS Brawler (PBC IV) Back to top
I see, and are these set in stone thereafter? Could I, say, start as a Military Officer and at some later point switch to System Lord? Vice versa? Ok, probably not system lord to military officer because then who controls those planets?
As far as being a Military Officer, am I then under Space Lord Kana's orders fully? No descretion? What I'm asking is, if sent to the front lines by Kana for some strategic goal, and I see another secondary goal that could be accomplished, would I be allowed to do that? And could I make up my own fleet composition?
Sorry for all the questions but it just sounds interesting to me.
The fledgling System Lord sounds good too, hrm. We're all working together, right? It wouldn't matter much if I start small in the middle of a game unless I'm directly competing against all the larger, more established System Lords.
Edit- I've decided to give the Military Officer post my full attention. The next game I'll try my hand at a System Lord starting fresh with everyone else. Back to top
