Computer I used first time works again, thanks Fyron. Should have the first turn ready to go in the next couple of days guys, again, sorry for the delay. It'll probably be slower than we'd like for the rest of the school year, but I should be able to get the pace to pick up in the summer, except when people are on vacation.

I know that the map hasn't shown up yet but I am seeing two possibilities when in does: A. we could set forth directives and have Doom check-in in year, regardless of when they are finished; or B. We could set concrete directives; eg Colonize AB and C, Build the following navy and have him comment on progress, with some events triggering a Re-evaluation of plans.
Personally I prefer option B, With directives to block off every warp-point, and then colonize every possible planet. Reasons to halt the plan, would be Alien incursion(first contact) and Alien Incursion(Where the unfriendly invaders aren't automatically destroyed by the defenses).

Could you summarize the empire for everyone(I know we discussed colony/atmosphere type, but don't remember a decision ever being made) so everyone is on the same page before you start generating turns?

I am happy to seal off the WP's with fighters and then colonize any breathable planets in the home system.
We should also discuss what to research for the first 10? turns. I say sensors 3 and then ion engines3, then planetary engineering.

That, people, is what we have to work with. Against every stock empire and all but two of the races on this site, those would be Gallente and G'Urak becuase we're using some of their stuff. We get the honor of aiding Admiral Adama and Darth Vader in their wars against the Borg/Space Fungus alliance, maybe. Depends on who Darwin decides gets to populate the galaxy, since all races will be set to aggressive. Bets on how long until 50% of the empires are gone?

Longer then 30 turns on halflife of the galaxy. I think that the leader name should just be The High Council. I won't bother to upload another set of ship set names as we can just type them in, and it takes the same amount of time as finding them on the list. In Light of that I move for a bill that would limit the Roman Empire names to the central (aka main bulk of the) military and the high council, any more personal or localized navies would have to be on a different naming pattern.

I vote to approve the setup as suggested. The High Council is a fitting leader name.

I would suggest using the paradise setup to allow the AI maximum use of expanding early on.

Are we agreed on Med cheat(bonus) for AI's?

We will all have to download every race for this to work. Do we know every race DOES work correctly? I know there are issues with the Vorox(and they have been fixed) and the Lyrans(I have fixed them as well) and I would imagine that there are others that have issues, as well that I have not come across.

I am also wondering what position I, as well as all other players, will be holding, as this will start influencing my wants/needs and swaying my votes on choosing paths to follow. For example, if I am running HW(mayor?/governor?), then I want early research in Planetary Engineering, but if I am an arm of the military, I prefer researching armor early.

Well, I'm CinC of the military, and I'll be running things according to your directions at first, until I finally set up the council. Med bonus is good, high difficulty I assume? That'll be a bitch what with CC modding the AI, too... And yeah, some of the shipsets may have issues. But those would be AI issues, and you need to change those out with default CC AIs to make it work anyway, so all's well. Anyway, first turn ought to be up tommorow or the day after, at which point we begin our evil conquest of the universe! If everyone would kindly describe what sort of character, name etc., they'd like to be portrayed as in the piece of fiction I'm going to write up as we play this, I'll make sure to add a link to it.

Might as well explain this.
There will be the High Council with probably everyone on it for now, besides the Chairman there should be equal numbers of civilian and military representatives. I do not care what I am. Doom has claimed CinC. He gets a primary second in command to choose(CinC has benefits), everyone else will be an Admiral that wants a military position. Please say offensive/defensive/no preference. The Remaining civilian players would get to vote on laws, allocate resources, and control planets. High Council will just approve things overall.

I prefer a civilian position(System lord is civilian, right?) I'd like to move into a System lord position or Governor of our HW; either is good to me. I am thinking of being Duke Ikul of the famous(infamous) Ikul clan. I will follow with WHY they are infamous soon.

"Duke"? I thought we weren't going with a nobility... But then again, you could be some old Earth noble who managed to get into a position of power over here anyway. Works for me.

In other news, shouldn't be much longer until I'm done setting up the other races to work, then I'll just run a five-turn test with a couple of them and then we're ready to go!

Okay, I just read the whole thread till the point that I started to take a notice in this game and I think I’m caught up…. I hope.
I didn’t see anything in the posts that didn’t say we weren’t going with nobility (didn’t see anything saying that we were either). I saw references to the(High Council) H. C., System Lords, Barons and System Governors but I didn’t see where everything was nailed down. Unless the Constitution of the Colonial Terragen Confederate Alliance (CTCA), is the “document” that we should be referring too?
If that is the case, then I see references to the H.C., State Duma (civilian), & the Imperial Diet (military). Both of the later terms refer to the Russian Empire (Czar Nicholas II) and the Holy Roman Empire (at least in my mind, unless you are going for the modern Russian Duma). Both of those would allow for nobility to still be around. Also, Article II Clause 4 mentions “Lords & Barons” which also brings to mind “nobility”.
We are also an Oligarchy: a form of power structure in which power effectively rests with a small number of people. These people could be distinguished by royalty, wealth, family ties, corporate, or military control.
So, what are we? I didn’t see it anywhere in the forums, but perhaps we could have a post or link clearing up the terms we will be using and also a short “history” of the CTCA so we can all get on the same page?

As for me, I want to be on the civilian side (perhaps a Constitutional lawyer? joking we shot all the lawyers right?). A system Lord (or Governor depending on the term we pick).

edit 1: OH, what are the odds we can get a PBC V subforms? This massive post is going to be a pain when the game starts.

Dead meat, I have been working on the constitution. As of right now I have it about as finished as I think it needs to be, but it will be added to. Yeah I cannibalized Duma from Russia and Diet from Japan. System Lords will control at least 1 solar system, Barons will control groups of planets. My thought is that the facility space on a planet can be allocated to different parts of the government. Probably 25% High Council, 25% System Lord, 50% Baron. Space Yard/ Production Time would also be divided up, probably 50% High Council, 40% Baron, 10% System lord; with options for lending/crediting/giving up time. This would allow for a national military as well as private forces. The system lord would also get a planet as system "capital", on which he would get 75% of the space. The Barons and The Lords would each have a "senate" where they should participate; similar to house of lords and house of commons in the english parliament. The technicality behind this would be a feudal government underneath an elected council with absolute authority in decision making. Lower levels may pass laws, but they would be limited in scope. The feudal oligarchy part is similar to what exists right now in Malaysia (The kings take turns) and what happened in the Holy Roman Empire.

Yes, yes... I think I'm going to premptively vote for building fighters fast, regardless of our solar system. I mean, I believe we get them immediatly, you can get them cheap and fast compared to everything else, and they can do a hella lot of damage while they're at it. Who's with me?

So barons and system lords are the titles we're going with, not, say, regional and planetary governors?

Doom, I think Baron/System Lord sounds a little cooler. On fighters; If this is as based on BM as I think it is, Fighters would be an expensive form of defense as far as maintenance goes. (Approx 2000 resources/fighter, Less effective that a ship in numbers below 8-15 because BM lowers fighter strength, Ship costs 6000 resources. Do the math) My opinion is that Fast Missile ships should be used for defense. They can shell out powerful ordinance from a long range, while keeping out of enemy range. A single point defense turret could take care of enemy missiles. Since we have the speed boost and a good, I say we use maybe 1-3 missile ships at each warp-point. I will also mention that this would allow a very strong immediate offensive capability.
