You may be facing satellites which look a lot like mines. but If i understand right they are not in cargo but physically deployed under the planet model. Try sending in combat ships.

Ok i tried that but i cant attack a planet with mines under it! It's a strange thing! How many sweepers do you need to wipe out a mine field?

Nothing at all. I attack the planet and kill all ships. When i move my ships from the planet and try to put them back on again i cant. There are white mine fields under the planets.

right click on the tile and select mark as marked minefield. There should not be any mines left if you have already removed them. try landing troops on the planet afterwards.

2 short questions here:
1. If you capture an enemy ship and analyze it and gain a tech which you did not have before (e.g. he already has shields and I don't, I capture a ship with level 2 shields on it), do I also gain access to all of its prerequisites? That is: If I did not already have it, would I not only be in the possession of Shields 2, but also Physics 2 (Shields' prereq) -- or only shields? Could I then research shields further without Physics? (Wondering if it is worth it to forgo research on Physics and concentrate on ship capture.)
2. My laptop crashed and I am playing on a different one. I forget how I did it, but I edited something somewhere which allowed me to play in windowed mode (so the game doesn't crash when alt-tabbing) at a decent resolution, but slightly lowers the pixel size so it fits in my laptop screen. I need to remove a few more pixels now on top/bottom and left/right to make it fit in this slightly smaller screen, can someone please tell me what and where the file was I must have edited to allow this in the first place? ;.)
THANK YOU!

1: No, you will not gain a level in Physics. The reason is that the captured component itself does not require a level in Physics tech, so analyzing the shield generator cannot provide Physics tech. Your best bet is to mothball the ship and wait until you have access to Shields to analyze the ship.

Well I've already done that -- video mode is correct at "windowed".
I manually edited some .txt file somewhere according to some wise person's advice -- the window was too big and he helped me scale down the pixels so it fits on the laptop. Now I need to do that again (just about 10 pixels each side, I think), but I no longer know where that is. Can someone point me in the right direction please!
