I hope you are still interested in working with us, Skyburn. Below is a rough draft of an employment contract. It is a starting point, open to negotiation. Please post your thoughts, even if you'd prefer a different part of Dragonstar Industries.

Code:
Employment Contract

1) Skyburn will be Director of Dragonstar Manufacturing starting ####.#.
2) The Director will be given complete control over all Dragonstar Manufacturing assets.
3) The Director is responsible for fulfilling all contracts underway by Dragonstar Manufacturing.
The Director has the right to negotiate and sign additional contracts for Dragonstar Manufacturing.
4) Dragonstar Industries will pay the Director ### Min / ### Org / ### Rad each month.
These funds will cover the cost of his salary. Dragonstar Industries will pay the maintenance fees.
5) The Director may request additional ships from Dragonstar Industries.
6) The Director is required to check in at least every other month regarding the status of Dragonstar Manufacturing.
If the Director fails to, Dragonstar Industries reserves the right to terminate employment.
7) Once the Director has completed one (1) year of employment, he is eligible for negotiations with Dragonstar Industries to purchase Dragonstar Manufacturing. This action is optional; the Director is allowed to remain in his position.
8) If the Director is terminated by Dragonstar Industries, all Dragonstar Manufacturing assets will be returned to Dragonstar Industries.

Now regarding funding, you will not start with your own budget. Not yet. It would be easiest to keep everything under the Dragonstar Industries budget initially. We will take care of costs. Your salary will simply accrue. Once you have been around awhile, you will get your own budget. We will provide you with all your salary money then.

Section 6 of the contract is simply to make sure you are still playing. Most corporate players just disappear after awhile. I need to know you are still around, even if nothing is happening.

While it is not in the contract, I may be transferring to you a construction ship from House Hermes. We have it on loan via the defense contract. So you would be limited in what you can do with it (has to conform with the Hermes contract). I will probably give you funds to build stuff for me. Like fighters, though I may leave it up to you which fighters to build.

I'm still most interested in the Director of Manufacturing position. I believe that is where I can best apply my talents to benefit Dragonstar Industries.

Code:
4) Dragonstar Industries will pay the Director ### Min / ### Org / ### Rad each month.
These funds will cover the cost of his salary.

How will storage be handled?

That's reasonable. Would four months from date of employment be a good time?

I look forward to having someone taking charge of the Dragonstar construction ships.

For your starting pay, I am considering 100 of each resource per month. I know it is not much. Perhaps we can setup periodic reviews for raises.

I have spoken with the Secretary of State, SuicideJunkie. Once you have obtained your own budget, you will also get a share of the Dragonstar storage. Should you one day go independent, your storage will be drawn from the general pool like everyone else.

I would prefer not to specify a time for this to take place, except to say it will happen no later than your 1-year anniversary. I am currently in talks with the federal government to get this setup for you.

Hopefully DI will also be covering the build costs for the units? I would like this inserted into the contract, even if the answer is no. Placing it in line item #4 after the sentence on maintence fees would be fine with me.

Once this provision is added, I will be ready to sign the contract.

I have been trying to determine an acceptable way to handle build costs for you. A blanket "yes" or "no" seems unfair. The former risks my own budget. The latter seriously hurts you.

The best solution I could think of is a sort of "Dragonstar Manufacturing Requisition" topic in the Lawyer's Office. Essentially, you would post what you want to build, including how much it will cost per month for how many months. I will agree to approve or deny the request before the turn is due. Since it will be done via the Lawyer's Office, I think it should be as binding as a contract.

You get funds you will need. I make sure the funds won't break Dragonstar.

If you agree with this format, I will add it into the contract. Probably make it a new Section 5 and move the rest down one.

I understand the need for flexibility and I agree with the format.

The contract is ready for your signature, Director Skyburn.

http://home.spaceempires.net/ftopicp-35841.html

Welcome aboard. I will transfer command of the DMS Freedom to you this month. And feel free to start using the Dragonstar logo in your signature (or even the Dragonstar Manufacturing logo).

I would like to point out the wording used for the Requisition process. It merely requires you to let me know how much for how long. You are not required to tell me what it is you are building (though it would be nice to know). I believe this will give you greater flexibility. This way you can change what you are building at the last second without losing approved funds.

Do you have the link for the Dragonstar Manufacturing logo? I would like to use that in my signature.

That can be gotten by quoting the post in the Company Overview thread:

Thanks SJ.

Skyburn, I can re-size the pic for you if you want. I know it is a bit bigger than mine. Then again, Cdr Kotau has a pretty big image in his signature...

Or, you are more than welcome to come up with your own. I only ask two things. One, the image suggest manufacturing. Two, the star is somewhere in the logo.

The DM logo disappeared after I tried to use it. Did I do something wrong?

Still no luck. I'll use the Dragonstar Industries logo instead.

Odd, you cannot see it? I cleared my cache, and it loads up the jpg just fine.

Can you see any of the other pictures in Company Overview?
http://home.spaceempires.net/ftopict-3810.html

I am curious to know if there is a problem.

After I posted the DM logo, it would show the logo as the empty box with the little red X. (Even in the company overview thread.) But today it is displaying normally.

I had no problem seeing the other pictures, but I didn't try to post any of them.

I think the problem is with my computer, not the picture itself. I use dial-up with a web accelerator, and occasionally I get strange, but minor, errors like this.

The DI logo gives me no problems, so I'll stick with that.

It suddenly occurred to me this week that an avatar for you has yet to be built in-game. I can put the order in for its creation this turn, but I have one question. There are two types of players in PBC. One can have as many colonies as he wants, but is limited to 4 military-grade warships. The other can have all the military-grade warships he wants, but no colonies. (Military-grade is any warship with 40+mm guns, fighter bays or all but anti-seeker missiles)

Please note that this question is in reference to how you see yourself should you ever leave Dragonstar to found your own company. I believe that since Dragonstar is a Military corporation you are bound by that type while employed here.

I am going to have it created near me, in the Hades system. I will be boarding my flagship shortly. After that, I want to pick you up as well. There is an office and living quarters already furnished for you in the VIP wing.

OOC: Every player in PBC is a Senator, whether a private contractor (CEO type), system lord or military officer. So sure, you can vote on Bills in the Senate, debate Bill's, propose Bills, etc. I would personally love it if you were an active Senator. Its all about the drama Wink

As my colleagues have already pointed out, yes you do get a vote. And feel free to make yourself noticed in the Senate. Voice your opinion. Let yourself be heard. Every bill should get a healthy dose of debate. Smile

You are Senator Skyburn as well as Director Skyburn.
