It was just another routine survey mission. The explorations of the Baninurmān 0002 had taken it to the Wertreken system. Unlike previous systems, Wertreken was a dead system, the victim of some long forgotten catalysm. All that remained were asteroid fragments, slowly orbiting the forlorn star. The crew of the Baninurmān 0002 had written off the system as worthless, and were on their way out of it in search of greener pastures. How could they know that it would be the scene of one of the most monumentous events in Zhentaran history?
Just as the Baninurmān 0002 was set to enter a warp point leading out of the Wertreken wasteland, an unknown alien ship entered the system through another warp point. As it was their mission to discover new life, the crew of the Baninurmān 0002 transmitted hailing frequencies to the unknown enemy vessel on as wide a band as possible. "Commander, we are clear of the warp point." Aphilia Cre'x announced. "All stations are reporting in okay, besides some minor damage at the cargobay and the external sensors. But no injuries, this time."
Commander Rend'x Rattinh nodded to his helmsman. but kept his eye on the main screen. Traveling through warp points was relativly save but could be a bit rough on occasions, and during the last jump one of his crewman broke an arm. So offcourse he was happy that nobody was hurt but the lack of any scanning ability was an large problem right now. Last month their sister ship the ' Rath'en ' had made contact with an alien species and although the aliens we're peacefull, commander Rattinh was carefull enough not to enter an system without an proper system-scan for ships or other signs of intelligence.
"Okay Aphilia, full stop. We stay here until our scanners are back online.
And Tr'akihn give me an estimated ........".
"Commander", bridge operator Tr'akihn interupted, "I get an incoming message on multiple frequencies and the source is originated in this system. I'm not able to translate it but I'm are running it through our translaters right now. The signal is comming from bearing 018 - 0152 and still transmitting."
Rattinh took some time to think things over and watched to the screen again. " Aphilia, lay in a new course 018 - 0152 but at low speed. Tr'akihn make sure those scanners are back online, we need those right away." Back to top

"Commander, it's gone. It just entered the warp point into the Mentocka nebula." Normaly bridge operator Ceth Tr'akihn was calm and relaxed, but the last 4 days we're the worst of his life. Everything went wrong, it took him almost 2 days to repair the scanners. So they we're heading to an unknown ship and species practicaly blind. And to make matters worse, only 3 procent of the message was translated sofar.
And now the alien ship had entered the warp point to the Mentocka nebula which brought the aliens very close to Cepheria.
"Tr'akihn, send an message to centre command that they can expect visitors soon. And Aphilia, lay in an pursuit course, we're going home."
So, after an year of exploring the galaxy for new lifeforms, they we're finaly going home. But now in pursuit of an unknown ship with unknown intentions heading for their home world. Back to top

After days of translation work, the message transmitted by the Baninurmān 0002 translated to:
"Alien vessel, this is the Baninurmān 0002 of the Zhentara Martial Republic, on a peaceful mission of exploration. Identify yourself." Smarter than your average Texrak. Back to top

" Are you absolutly sure about this translation? " Commander Rattinh asked to his two bridge operators. " If so send an message to Centre Command, that we will start first contact protocol and send an message to the aliens that we have the same intentions as them and that I invite them to come along side and meet each other. Also give them the coordinates of the warp point and tell them not to enter that system before we got an chance to talk, they are welcome to visit our homeworld but we will be their guide."
" Commander, are you sure it is wise to give the coordinates already. Maybe we should first have some face to face talks with them. " Tr'akihn never had any doubt about Commander Rattinh, but now he had to make sure that Tr'akihn was making the right decision.
" I understand your concerns Ceth, but if they are really on an peacefull exploration mission, as we are, and they will enter our system. They will be destroyed or captured and an war between our races starts without any word exchanged !!" Back to top
Upon hearing news of the contact situation, much debate ensued amongst the Great Council. Debates had raged for days, all while the Baninurmān 0002 sat alone in the Mentocka Nebula. Some houses favored caution. Others favored negotiation of trade treaties in order to provide a source to export booming industrial products. Some favored conquest for the glory of the Republic. Finally, Overlord Zyrkul had had enough. He bypassed the Great Council and ordered Telkar Razhael to proceed with first contact. He granted him the authority to negogiate a formalized Treaty of Non-Aggression, in the interests of peace.
On the command deck of the Baninurmān 0002, tensions were high.
"Telkar, transmission finally received," reported the communications officer.
"About time!" exclaimed Telkar Razhael. "They must have had trouble translating our language. Get the translation team working on their message. See if our boys can't work faster!" A round of raucious laughter amongst the bridge crew ensued.
After some time translating the alien message, Razhael sent a new transmission into the nebula. Even though visual scanners were not working, the communications pods were functional.
"Alien vessel, I, Telkar Razhael of the Zhentara Martial Republic, have been authorized by my government to enter negotiations of a treaty of non-aggression with your people. We would like to visit your homeworld, though we are wary of potential defenses. Can we be assured of safe passage through the worm hole?" Smarter than your average Texrak. Back to top

Baninurmān 0002, this is commander Rattinh.
We are very pleased to hear that you are accepted our invitation to visit our homeworld. Sorry that it took us a few days to respond to your message, but our ship had endured some damage when traveling through the last warppoint.
I hope our races can work out an more lasting peace treaty, and my personal hopes are that of more constructive coorporation.
But for now I can guarantee the safety of your crew and your ship when entering our system. My vessel will escort you to our homeworld and I hope we can meet eachother in after arival.
Telkar Razhael responded, "I look forward to the day. We are traveling to the provided coordinates as we speak." Smarter than your average Texrak. Back to top

The two Carressh class patrol vessels we're ordered to move away from the warppoint which they we're guarding for the last 6 weeks. They we're expecting an vessel from the Zhentara Martial Republic, and the government wanted any armed vessel out of the way to avoid problems and misunderstanding.
The two ships we're flying for an hour as suddenly one of them, designated as ' C - 100 ' raised speed and returned to the warppoint.
The other vessel only reacted after 5 minutes, in which they tried to make contact with their sister ship and informed Central HQ. They turned around and pursuited their comrade's. But offcourse the distance was to big and they we're to late.
But on the bridge of the ' C - 102 ' they we're all witness of this disaster.
The unarmed Zhentarian vessel had absolutly no change when they came out of the warppoint. And it blew up in only 10 minutes.
Aboard the ' C - 102 ' :
" Commander it's over, the ship is gone. I see 6 rescue pods with 3 lifeforms each. " the bridge operator said.
Commander e'rk Xerien nodded and touched some button and started to speak: " All hands, this is commander Xerien. One of our own vessels has just attacked the alien ship and destroyed it. The Zhentarians we're on an peacefull mission and invited by our government to Cepheria.
The reasons and motivations of the ' C - 100 ' is still unknown to us but HQ has ordered me to take control of the ' C - 100 ' or destroy them.
So, all hands to battle stations.
Posted: Sat Nov 20, 2004 2:30 pm Post subject: Aftermath
The battle took only 20 minutes and Commander e'rk Xerien was able to take over control of the ' C - 100 '.
sixteen members of the ' C - 100 ' crew was still loyal to the Union and we're fighting the terrorists when Xerien's boarding squads entered the ship. Eleven of the terrorists died, but thirteen we're taken alive.
But a huge price was paid, the terrorists destroyed two of the six rescue pods during the fight and killed 6 more Zhentarions with that action.
And the peaceful future between the Cepherions and the Zhentarions was now further away than ever. Back to top

Zhentara Martial Republic,
We must inform you about the tragic los of your ship the " Baninurmān 0002 ". It was destroyed by one of our own ships after it was taken by an extremist religious group, Their goal was to prevent the peacetalks on our homeworld. And we deeply regret it, but for now they succeeded.
Only twelve of your people survived the disaster, one of them is the commanding officer " Telkar Razhael ". We are already preparing an ship to bring them to your homeworld.
We deeply regret that this happened, your peacefull people now suffered due to internal affairs on our homeplanet. We are willing to compensate the loss of those who died and the loss of your ship.
We really hope that we get an second chance from your people, and that we can start negotiations, to settle this problem, very soon.
The Great Council descended nearly to the point of utter chaos upon receiving the distress signal of the Baninurmān 0002, soon followed by the transmission from Prime-secretary Tah'el Heer. Some houses demanded immediate retribution against the Cepherian Union for the heinous destruction of the Baninurmān 0002. Others espoused accepting the conciliatory tone of the message and move on, continuing peace talks. Still other houses demanded a more isolationist tone, cutting off all communications with the Cepherian Union. It was all that Overlord Zyrkul could do to prevent the situation from escalating into an orgy of violence.
After many days of raging debates, threats, and aborted near-challenges, an interim solution of an inquiry into the issue was agreed upon. Overlord Zyrkul sent the following communication to Prime-secretary Tah'el Heer:
"The Zhentara Martial Republic is most outraged by recent events. The destruction of a peaceful vessel on a mission of good will is a most grievous atrocity. We are willing to consider your innocence in this matter, but will require the renegade crew for interrogation. This will be done before any sort of negotiations may resume. You may drop them off at the world of Lornak VI. The survivors of the Baninurmān 0002 can be deposited there too." Smarter than your average Texrak. Back to top

" The Cepherion Union can inform you that we accept your request, and we are preparing two of our ships for the journey to Lornak VI. Your people and the prisoners will be handed over to you as soon as the ships arive. After that the crew will hand over the ship to you and they will return with an second ship. Both of the ships will be unarmed to avoid further mistakes. " Back to top
