I've been playing around with one of my own personal mods, in which you can build all ship types from Frigates to Dreadnoughts right at the beginning of the game, and "Ship Construction" allows for the ships to grow in size, much like warships grew over time, look at the first Dreadnought, some 20,000 tons, and then 35+ years later, ships with twice the tonnage (45,000 or so) tons are now standard.
It works quite well with a human player, because they're smart enough to recognize that their fleet cannot all be dreadnoughts, so they build Frigates, Cruisers, etc to round out their fleets, but not so with the AI. They only build one type of Attack Ship, and it uses the largest possible hull.
I'm wondering if it's possible for the AI to build different types of attack ships, each attack ship class corresponding with a vehicle size, so that you can see AI fleets made up of a balanced proportion of frigates, destroyers, cruisers, and battleships Back to top
