So I've noticed that retrofits are charged to your resource pool before the new income is added -- irritating, but understandable, since retrofits happen "this turn" not next.
Does anyone know the exact sequence of financial steps when a turn ends?
I'm talking about:
retrofits
maintenance
new builds
income
changes due to trades / gifts
etc.
Retrofits are charged immediately as you do them. They aren't charged between turns.
Based on what I observed on a few occasions when I was low on resources, I think you get all of your income, then ship maintenance is deducted one ship at a time, and then construction queues are deducted one at a time. So you never lose any ships unless maintenance exceeds income, and some queues may produce while others don't. Back to top
The full order of resource allocation can be found in the SE Wiki, somewhere in the Manual. Don't recall precisely where.

Only in lame-o sequential movement mode. In simultaneous movement mode, they are actually deducted during processing like everything else, even though the game gives a false indication of an immediate deduction. Smarter than your average Texrak. Back to top
