from the start of plying this game i ask my self why the favorite choice weapon of AI is
1. DUC
2. anti proton beam??


i mean now im in battleship age.. having Whole specter of different weapons.. but still if i use autocomplete it chose Anti proton beam???

also i didnt encounter any of alien races that use another weapon exept above mentioned 1 and 2 .. and bases also use capital misile only.. in my case i never ever saw a alien base use topedos or such


anyone knows why**????

I know my personal reasons, but not the AI.

The APB is one of the longest range weapons, and range can mean the difference between life and death (since the other guy can't hit you). In Balance, the APB has half the range penalty, so you effectively get +30% to hit above other weapons at the same range.

Between APB and DUC, I think there is no reason to take DUC - they are the same size, but DUC takes ordinance.


There is a fine line between Genius and Insanity. I am firmly on one side of that line!

ok. i researched a little bit and yes you got the point there.. APB are one of the most ranged direct fire weapons


but what about torps vs. missiles??

Torpedoes increase in damage quite rapidly, with minor range increases, opposite to missiles which gain range quite quickly, but do not increase in damage as fast.

DUCs are, at least in SE4, still a reliable weapon after several hundred turns. Eventually you'll want to start using bigger, badder weapons though.

In standard, the meson blaster tends to be the early game weapon of choice for me. It's got decent range and a lot of firepower, oddly enough.

Yeah, level 37ish Meson Blasters can do 200+ damage. Combine that with the 20kt size and cheapness and you can have 3 Meson blasters @200 damage vs. 2 APBs @250, giving you 100 more damage. Their range is less and their accuracy isn't great, but they are a very viable weapon, even later in the game.
