Hi all! I was wondering if someone could explain in detail how Migration works. I know that only races that can breathe the atmosphere by default will migrate to a specific planet, but how does the algorithm determine who goes where and is there any limits to how far they can go?

Is there any reason I shouldn't just be "Scrapping" any race on my planets that can't breathe the atmosphere to be able to take advantage of having a not-domed colony? I've been doing that consistently, oxygen-breathers will move onto my oxygen-planet domed colonies (I breathe Methane) and then I just use the Cargo options and scrap all my indigenous Methane-breathers. The planet is still mine, but its populated by Humans and is no longer domed, so I can build 5x as many things on it.

How does population loyalty work? I see several readouts for races on my planets, but sometimes I see two readouts for the same race with the same amount of that race, the same stats, same loyalty, etc.. just a different Empire Flag. When I go into Cargo, I see different amounts then what I see in the Races tab of the Planet Info screen.

Also, when I build a Colony Ship on a planet that has only Humans on it, then use "C" hotkey to Colonize and select another oxygen planet.. the Colony ship loads up 18m Humans and heads off. It colonizes the planet.. but it's domed! When I look in planet Cargo I see that 1m of my default race is somehow magically there. If there was nothing but Humans on the planet I built the colony ship on, and the Colonize order will load population from the planet like any cargo transfer, where are these default methane-breathers coming from? Is this a bug or a feature?

When I select My Empire Report from the Empires screen, and look at "member races", I only see my default race even though I've conquered 4 others and they are all over my empire. I have conquered Carbon Dioxide, Methane, Hydrogen and Oxygen breathers and they migrate all over the place, which is where these questions are coming from Smile

Quick bug: When you select "Upgrade Facilities" from the master Build Queue screen, it will not upgrade every facility on every planet. I don't know why or why not and I don't know how much it skips, but I find level 8 Research Centers on my homeworld that are supposed to be level 60, after I've upgraded SEVERAL times through that screen and button.

Thanks for any answers you can provide!

You get bonuses to production and construction from high population, so it is usually better to move them back to native planets.

This is the automatic population feature, put in to not frustrate people when they forget to load up pop (and don't use the colonize order directly). It really does need to be smarter, putting the same race as in cargo if it is not empty... make sure to email MM suggesting this.

Smarter than your average Texrak.

I think it's an automatic thing. You could make transports, though.

There is a fine line between Genius and Insanity. I am firmly on one side of that line!

Migration between your planets in your empire that have your default race on them is automatic and I don't know how it works, though I think the better the conditions on a planet, the more likely it will be to have migrants move in. If you make a treaty with another Empire, theres an option that allows Migration between the empires. If the other Empire uses another atmosphere type, they will migrate to your domed colonies on planets that support their atmosphere and not be limited by the domed population cap, but the colony will still be considered domed until you remove all non-atmosphere-breathing races from it completely.

Or use the "Scrap Cargo" order to send them on a one way trip... Razz
