Hi, I was trying to change the size at which the asteroids and storms show up on a sector map. The reason is that I'm tried of these appearing bigger than one hex in size. As I try to move around the map, I'm constantly encountering 'fake' asteroid and storm squares because the image overflows one hex and displays across several hexes. I want to shrink the images for storms and asteroids such that they only appear to be in one hex.

I found stellarobjects.txt. Another post out here said that you could change the sizes there. I found the listing of all of the storms and asteroids. But when I change "Maximum Model Size" and then restart the game, nothing happens.

I thought I'd found the mistake, as I'm running Balance Mod. At first I was changing the 'stock' stellarobjects.txt file. Then I found the version of this file in the Balance mod. But, even though I've now made changes in both, the storms and asteroids are the same size as before in both a saved game and a new game.

Has anyone tried to do this? If anyone has any help, I'd like to hear it. Also, I don't seem to see any sort of modding guide for this file, so any general help on what the lines like Max Model Size and the others do might be helpful.

THANKS!

So If you go to STELLAR OBJECT TYPES DATA FILE you can change the size of stars, planets, asteroids ect.
Code:

Stellar Object Name        := Nebulae 1
Physical Type              := Storm
XFile Class Name           := Nebulae Type 1
Maximum Model Size         := 30.0
Hex Size                   := 1
Picture Index              := 652
Portrait Filename          := nebulae_1.bmp
Large Portrait Filename    := nebulae_1_lp.jpg
Description                := A stellar storm composed of plasma fields, energy discharges, and electro-static gasses.
Storm Size                 := Huge

here is an example of a nebulae where it says max model size is where you change how it looks in game

this is what you change to make it look smaller in game
Code:

Maximum Model Size         := 30.0

its usually trial and error to find out what size is best for what object
