I'm a Steam SE5 player. I actually like it. Steam does a good job supporting it, I can set it to patch/update automatically, and SE is just as moddable as any other format. Best of all I didn't pay shipping, nor were any unnecessary resources wasted on manufacturing, shipping, or packaging a copy of the game and manual. The downside is that if your Internet is down you can't start up a game, even in single player. So I wouldn't recommend it for anyone still on dial-up or with a spotty connection.
